"Ahh... So this is the town?" A certain Fairy Tail member took on a mission to help the police in Magnolia Town to catch a certain thief that's said to steal rare items from different houses, breaking into a house and stealing a rare item one at a time, whatever he could find of course the looks valuable, so the description of the mission says. Kidd Law decided to take on this mission, knowing that if he completes this he might have a bit more experience as a magician and might get a bit closer to what he was before he stopped using Magic, a good reason for him at least. It didn't take long before he reached the station, as it was kind of near the guild house making it very convenient for people who try to catch a thief - like now.
The equipment he took with himself was his own weapons - the Chakrams, the paper telling of the mission so he'd be reminded of what he is allowed to do and what not and obviously - a bottle of liquor from the Fairy Tail bar. Snatching one of those even if you're underage seems to be very easy, probably because almost all the time there are people down there, not watching the liquor around so carefully. Kidd didn't know if he was planning on drinking the liquor, but it might get to good use eventually. Who knows. It was around noon, the hour 12:07 AM, a good enough time to go and try to catch a thief...
Yeah right.
On his way towards the police station, he heard some people talking about stuff that didn't really concern him, nor did he have any interest in it. Talking to people randomly without a reason would be quite weird, if you'd ask him, but in this case he might need it, as the thief managed to escape from the police's hand even after being caught once... Or twice. When arriving at the police station, Kidd introduced himself to the officers around holding the paper in-front so they'd see why is he here. "Hey. I'm a wizard from Fairy Tail and I came to find the rare item thief. Tell me please what is there to now about the guy."

The officers looked at the kid as he arrived in the station. Declaring his purpose in the city and in the station, he waited for an answer as one of the police officers stood up and looked at the kid from above, making the wizard quite angered by his short height once again. Disappointing. The officer coughed and then began to speak, giving the most annoying note in the start. "I see. If Fairy Tail are sending a kid for this kind of job, they must be really good..." Kidd was irritated at the officer's comment, almost shouting at him but holding himself back, knowing the consequences of what would happen if he did shout at the officer. He tried to endure his anger a bit longer, at least until the officer stops talking. The timing to stab this guy was perfect, even holding both Chakrams in one hand.
"Well kid, there's your job. Uhh, your analysis on the paper was correct, the thief is indeed stealing away rare items only, strangely." Not hard to notice that he's stealing only rare items when it says so on the paper, huh. "We're having a hard time capturing the thief because each time we try to get traces of the thief they're already gone. Also, never once did we catch him handily stealing a rare item, so this might be a bit tough on you. You are to find him and bring him here alive." The officer finished talking. Kidd then sighed as he gave out his comment, grabbing the policeman's shirt and bringing him to his height. "Alright, that was a good description, enough for me to understand. And please... don't call me a kid again." He said as he let the guy go and left the station.
Kidd then began his analysis after the thief. The fact that they never saw him stealing something handily could either mean he's using a weapon or spell. Going around to the crowd and asking them questions of about the thief, Kidd had to ignore his impassive personality and try to investigate further, though with fail. Eventually, he managed to get enough information from a guy that the thief robbed not so long ago, in fact, two days ago. According to his story, he saw one of his golden medals hovering in the air and then exiting through the window powerfully, smashing the window before even touching it. It was weird, but enough information to give Kidd a plan.

Coming up with a certain plan of how to catch the thief, Kidd thought of how the plan should go. In his own mind, in order to have the plan work he'll need to investigate the order in which the thief is stealing in houses, hoping it not to be random and also receive some supplies from the townsfolk, but that would just be wrong. "(Alright. So the thief is stealing without being seen, with the item being visible to the eyes of everyone. That means he's either using a weapon - at this case a string would work, or a spell to transport the items to him. He must be a skilled magician if he can transport items from that far away without even touching it first hand. I've got to find a way to copy that move... But first, to observe.)" Kidd decided to stay at one of the townsfolk's house for one night in order to watch for the thief.
The most obvious item to be stolen is the most valuable, and the most valuable in the town currently is at the police station, making the thief get away from that area - or is he really brave enough to transport an item to himself from the police station. The most possible way currently is to wait at one of the houses secretly without the host knowing or the thief, most likely inside the house. Kidd waited until it was hid inside one of the houses with an item that seemed valuable enough for this rare item thief to steal, simply trying to see the thief in work and if he'll be lucky enough, he'll get a chance to catch him while at it too. The Template Magician waited until late enough until he heard very quiet sounds and the rare item started flying in-front of him. Kidd of course was hiding behind some object in the house, not making any noise at all.
The item flew outside through the door and then started speeding up. One of the things that Kidd couldn't help but not notice was that the item was keeping on to perform flips in the air as it was inside the house, then on the outside started moving as if it was held by something. Seeing the process and understanding now that a weapon or an object isn't responsible for this deed, Kidd understood what kind of spell the thief was using, and gave his report to the police after his encounter with what he saw. He thought, while seeing the item flying away, to jump in and grab the item, but that could cause it to drop and make noise, waking up the host of the house, which is a bad idea.

The next day, Kidd came out with a plan to draw out the thief into stealing something that would cause his capture, not really thinking of anything else to do, as jumping on the thief when he's in work would be completely pointless. Reporting in to the police station, the wizard was now ready to catch the thief at last, not having much trouble in the process of preparation, however the catching process would be completely different and would mostly cause Kidd to see where he's wrong if his plan indeed doesn't match the type the opponent - in this case the rare item thief - is. Kidd came to a conclusion that the opponent was a thief that used a certain spell that would aid him in stealing, making him a magician, but due to what he experienced in that house, the wizard could tell that the thief wasn't so experienced. According to the report as well, the thief isn't capable of attacking in any way.
Kidd waited in a random house the next night, pinning his Chakrams to the wall instead of two photos so they'd look as if they're simple decorations, also painting the liquor bottle he took with him in gold, then putting him in a closet with a glass cover, letting the thief see it clearly through the closet, so when it'll open it would be easier to catch him out of his own distraction. The thief came in that night around a late hour, something like 3:28 AM. The wizard also made sure that no other rare item will be seen in the house so the thief wouldn't have any choice but to steal the bottle, but that's where he made a mistake. The thief was able to see through Kidd's plan and snatched one of the rare items that were covered under a blanket. When he exited the house, the item looked like it started running, again.
The item was 'running' away through the streets after coming out of the house, and eventually entered a certain house out of town, more into the forest nearby. The item was going through until it reached some pile, and just before it was placed on the top it was suddenly thrown to the ground. A thud was heard the moment it was thrown, and the thief revealed himself. Kidd appeared out of thin air, looking from above at the thief who was currently laying on the ground. "The reports were correct. The thief wasn't capable of using offensive attacks, but was still a mage. According to the analysis, it looks like you are a wizard capable of using vision tricks, more like invisibility. I see this is where you were hiding all the rare items. Congratulations, you're now under arrest."
